The chamber ensemble Sonanza performed for the first time together in 1982 and their interpretation of Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire was an immediate triumph. The group's significance on Swedish contemporary music was quickly established and recognised with the Swedish Fonogrampriset 1985, Edition Reimers 'Kristallen den fina' prize 1989 and the Grammis Award for Classical CD of the year in 2010. Further evidence of Sonanza's standing as a pillar of the Swedish contemporary music scene can be seen in the around 250 new works the orchestra has premiered since its founding. Contemporary music ensembles usually work closely with composers, but Sonanza has taken this collaboration a stage further and developed an approach where workshops and seminars take centre stage alongside concert performances. Sonanza has established itself as one of Scandinavia's leading ensembles in its field.
